Every field explained
What each returned field means in plain words.
Every lookup to https://api.ipatlas.dev/v1/{ip} returns one flat JSON object with the same fields on every plan.
| Field | Example | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
ip | "8.8.8.8" | The IPv4 or IPv6 address that was looked up. |
country_code | "US" | The standard two-letter ISO country code — ideal for picking a currency, language or flag in your code. |
country | "United States" | The full country name in plain English, ready to show in your interface. |
is_eu | false | true when the country is in the European Union and false otherwise, so you can apply EU VAT or privacy rules. |
region | "California" | The state, province or region inside the country (or empty when only country-level data is known). |
city | "Mountain View" | The approximate city where the internet provider routes this IP block. Good for helpful defaults, not exact street addresses. |
latitude, longitude | 37.422, -122.085 | Approximate coordinates for the centre of the city or region so you can place a pin on a map. |
timezone | "America/Los_Angeles" | The IANA time zone name so your app can format times and dates in the visitor's local time. |
asn.number | 15169 | The Autonomous System Number that identifies the network routing this IP block. |
asn.organization | "Google LLC" | The plain-text name of the internet service provider, mobile carrier or cloud host operating that network. |

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is an IP address lookup?
Country and network provider (ASN) are very reliable. City and coordinates are approximate because internet providers assign IP blocks across a wider region, especially on mobile connections.
Does this tool support both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses?
Yes. Enter any public IPv4 address (like 8.8.8.8) or IPv6 address (like 2001:4860:4860::8888) in the lookup box or pass it to /v1/{ip}.
Are the IP addresses I look up logged?
No. ipatlas never stores or logs the IP addresses you look up, whether you use this page or call the API from your application. Our servers run in the EU (Germany).
Can I call this lookup from my own website or backend?
Yes. Fetch https://api.ipatlas.dev/v1/8.8.8.8 from your backend or /v1/me from the browser. You can try up to 1,000 lookups a day without a key, or sign up above for 50,000 free lookups a month.
